IDEAS & APPARATUS publishes artworks and artist’s books.
The project is named for the vital role printing has played in the history of ideas in its more than five hundred year history.
We have a neo-conceptual approach that considers visual perception in relation to cognitive perception, exploring the notion that thought and perception are co-constitutive.
We like to collaborate with artists that have developed unique modes of artistic research or ways of thinking which are generating new forms of perception. We approach art as a form of experimental knowledge production which conveys its own validity as a force of change in culture.
I&A develops publishing opportunities with artists while offering works directly to the public located within a richer context of ideas (rather than that of consumer objects).
While printmaking has been taught as a craft and trade for centuries, I&A is polytheistic towards the many print mediums available to artists today. Our emphasis in more on creativity. We assist artists to make deft use of any digital and analogue printing technology to realize of their project.
The most innovative art of any time represents the best thinking about art at that time - is our admittedly biased creed.
We are artist run and operating in NYC.
